The project

Protocol 223 is a free-roaming virtual reality experience built around four dimensions: full-body capture, a mixed-reality environment, free movement and competition.

Protocol 223 - Teams facing off

My role

I worked on Protocol 223 as CTO and lead developer. My scope covered a significant part of the Unity VR development as well as leadership of the developers and artists.

My responsibilities included:

  • the game architecture and networking layer;
  • programming the motion-capture suit's microcontrollers;
  • VR tools and tools for mapping the physical room to its virtual representation;
  • Unity tools and tools for creating and dressing game levels;
  • services used to operate the game, including cloud, database, API and game master application work;
  • some of the visual effects.

This list describes my responsibilities without disclosing the project's detailed architecture, algorithms or internal processes.

The central challenge

The most significant challenge was integrating the motion-capture suit and synchronizing the player's physical body with their virtual avatar.
